Architectural Designers & Contract Administrators
Over some 6 years or so we have worked closely with the secondary school to enhance the teaching enviroment:
Sixth Form building
Maths and dining block
Two new classroom bases
Swimming pool refurbishment
By infilling an existing open courtyard enclosed by classrooms and corridors we provided three new spaces allowing the school considerable flexibility in achieving the curriculum and providing generous spaces for performance and computer studies.
By raising the new roof above the level of the existing flat roof maximum use is made of naturally lighting the internal spaces and achieving cross ventilation through the use of opening windows. An independent steel structure supports the new roof avoiding any overloading of the existing structure.
The school had lost the use of the whole of their East Wing due to structural problems. Combined with poor space planning this resulted in a major reduction of working space for the school.
We carried out major structural repair and special rearrangement to provide contemporary facilities comprising five new science laboratories, IT studio, music practice and performance rooms, science office and stores and twelve new general teaching classrooms and associated facilities. Externally windows were repaired or replaced, the fabric repaired and a new planting scheme implemented.
We also went onto design a new 4 classroom block with a new library on the 1st floor.
